Following a thirteen year period at the
beginning of his career when he was involved in research and development in
the conservation field, Kobus was appointed as assistant director of Nature
Conservation for the Cape Province in 1983. He was rapidly promoted and
became director of Nature Conservation in 1991 with responsibility for the
entire Cape Province including the Marine Reserves. Kobus took early
retirement from Cape Nature Conservation in 1996 to concentrate on a career
in consulting. Since 1998 he has also acted as a temporary senior lecturer
in Nature Conservation at Stellenbosch University. He has been a member of
Horus Wildlife Consultants since 1998.
He has experience and expertise in a wide
variety of fields including responsibility for tourism and wildlife
management issues at the highest levels of government. He was also the South
African representative at SCI. His recent consultancies have included the
planning establishment and operational supervision of new private nature
reserves as well as environmental impact assessments for road developments. |
